Watched : Night at the Musuem

This is a holiday film so the fun is rather good and clean.

Ben Stiller is Larry. A divorced parent who, well, is trying to make it big without much success (I can, well, rather to that). Desperately needing a job to pay off the rent and to stop moving for the sake of his son, he eventually goes to a manpower agency to get a job.

And he was assigned to be a night watchman at the musuem.

Little did he know the job is More Tougher than he believe.

On some accounts, this movie reminds me of Jumanji. It's a good movie. Just don't expect anything really new or original.

EOY '06

Actually there isn't much thought to share. I wrote some on sgcafe regarding the event and regarding the lack of tact by Luel during in her presentation. If people are curious to see what kind of thing I wrote, go to the forum and read. If they want to discuss, do just comment this entry itself, there's room enough for anything.

Here's a lowdown on the Good and the Bad:

The Good
- Booth arrangement. Makes the venue bigger than last year for people who wants to view whatever on stage.
- Variety of booth and organisation is neat.
- UV chop. Make life easier for everyone.

The Questionable?
- Luel dishing out dirt and hurling at the floor. There's no point telling the audience about how most of her friends felt about photographers. It especially unfunny since the floor audiences could be just friends of cosplayers and knows nothing about the whole COSPLAYER VS PHOTOGRAPHERS. Also she didn't realised the butt of the joke is actually OUTSIDE. She isn't 100% wrong but she made a folly of herself since no one reacts. Maybe she tries too hard to be funny but being funny isn't about pumping irons using force. Take a look at SK. She almost fell into his calibre that day.

The Bad
- There's a lack of participation from cosplayers I guess. However those who got called on stage are caught off guard. I really felt that those who made an effort ought to try go on the stage. You are not there to compete. You are there to assure yourself you are not CosTARD.
- Voting are not clearly given choices. The girls manning the booth are chatting and those cosplayers are clearly standing there to block the booth. Nice try people. Luel, I finally realised I can answer one of your RANTING on stage. FF VII AC won by a big margin because there's a whole lot hoarding the area at the voting booth. Whatever their intentions are, I dunno. Neither am I trying to imply that FF VII AC won that way. They are good. Clearly entertaining.

And The UNFORTUNATE
- The 8bit FF Group. I don't know why the girl cried. The skit isn't all bad however that idea just didn't cut it for Live Theatre. Better luck with it on a FLASH MOVIE (which I believed the skit is based on) or a Youtube Video (meaning Homebrew).
- The Oruchimaru that got away. He didn't turn up for the Prize Presentation segment.
I am not too sure why he didn't turn up. Will he win a prize if he did???I am not too sure but he certainly can contest that Edward that won. Look at his accessories!!!The tongue!!!The snake!!!The sword!!!And he is scary!!!!What is the Edward about other than he is SHORT??? Ok Ok, I understand. I run popularity polls on sgcafe.

And the usual.

Thanks for the gang that turns up on EOY'06 so that it wouldn't be a couple of goons going for an event not particularly relevant to themselves.

Thanks for the lovely leader, Vanilla, who once again grace us with her presence.

And Cloud_tidus. If you are joining a group, it's easier to inform the leader or someone via pm,sms, msn you are going to show you are sincerely joining up.

And to Lenne and Inuran, hey great cosplay! Hope to see you girls at the next event!

And to Sk.........you want my past issues of Men's Health???Retribution comes when you keep laughing at people that are different. Tuck in that stomach, Soldier!!!!

And to Inova......u SUCK!!!!u Beng Wannabe. Haha.

And to Shuuichi.....wow!!!!I cannot recognise you!!!LOL.

And to Thanks to yuki, the real one who is doing all the work.

A Battle of Wits (Mo Gong)

Mo Gong is a manga to movie project helmed by HK producers.
However like Initial D, it's one of those projects that almost seems to be dead since there was ZERO news after acquiring the rights for sometime.

And damn right time this movie is ever relevant (If I am not wrong, it was more 10 years since the project was announced)with all that chaos running all over the world.

Andy Lau stars as Ge Li (the character is botak in the manga), a mohist who arrives at Liang to save the city from Zhao's Invasion during the troubled times of Warring States Periods of China.

However his arrival wasn't too welcome, especially when the King of Liang has decided to bow down and surrender. Met with distrust at first, Ge Li proved his worth after putting down siege after siege. However as time goes by, Ge Li found himself in a dilema as the savagery of war takes form and goes against the ethnic of his Learnings. Lack of the tactful social skills and too bounded by the rules of Mohism, Ge Li not only lose trust from his very employer but also lost the woman he love.

The movie has the essense of a thoughtful anti-war film however within the execution comes some flaws that almost marred the beauty of it:

- Dancing Zhao Troops in the fire trap. It's probably the most horrifying and moving (via shock) scene in the movie, if it's not for the extras thinking they were playing drunken pirates in a celebration scene in PoTC.

- Fan Bing Bing's Yi Yue. Bold passionate Female General or lust-filled Female General? It doesn't helps when it's Fan BingBing.

- Guys!Guys!!!Don't talk so close to each other!!!It didn't help when that Brokeback Mountain was shown this year and still fresh!!!!!

Despite the drawbacks, Mo Gong is the most enjoyable period movie made by Chinese filmmakers (come on lah. HK is part of PRC) this year. It's a honest film without resorting to cheesy artsy fartsy acting and poke your eyes out special effects. The costumes were practical looking enough (althought the traveller garb Ge Li appeared in is so "jedi").

Banquet?Curse of the Golden Armour?Man those are made for Ang Mohs. Mo Gong is something that is for everyone.

Just another personality quiz

Testriffic.com

why isn't there a thinking horndog result???

WaTched

Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny

It's a buddy movie. Starring Jack Black and Kyle Gass in a semi-fictional version of their Band and life.

It's nothing amazing just that it's almost like a musical.

Meatloaf and Dio cameos but the buck is paid for Tenacious D's music. You can't tell if the movie is to plug in their music or the music is plug in to sell the movie.

Open Season

It's another buddy movie. Not as "dangerous" as Happy Feet.
Switch off your brain and enjoy the jokes. Althought it's naughty to say nuts in front of children.
LOL.
